Some of us watched it when we shouldn’t have, some of us watched it by mistake, some of us watched it too late and some of us are yet to watch it (seriously?). Anyway, at some point in our lives, we all have referred to porn as ‘blue film’ without even knowing why.

According to one of the users, when B-grade or porn movies were played at theatres, their posters were launched in a blue background as opposed to normal movie posters to subtly attract attention.
Another user said that when porn movies were initially shot, they used to be of low-budget, and the director resorted to cheap ways to convert black and white reel into the coloured one. And since the quality wasn’t up to the mark, a bluish tint remained on the film.
However, there could be another reason for the origin of the term, according to one user. Earlier, video stores packaged the VSR cassettes based on the type of movie they gave out. For erotic/adult movies, they used a blue paper bag and a white polyethene bag for normal movies. And that’s how the name ‘blue films’ came into place.
Well, who knew there is a history to porn as well?
